Samsung is facing delays on nearly every major U.S. carrier
Samsung is blaming “overwhelming demand” for the delay of its flagship Samsung Galaxy S4.
“Due to overwhelming global demand of Galaxy S4, the initial supply may be limited,” Samsung told AllThingsD. “We expect to fulfill inventory to meet demands in the coming weeks.”
Samsung had a glorious plan for the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S4: launch it on seven carriers in April. It was going to come to AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and more but then we started to hear about some delays. And then we started hearing about more delays. And then Verizon said its Samsung Galaxy S4 wouldn’t launch until May 30.
The delay of the Samsung Galaxy S4 will likely not be a death knell for what’s shaping up to be one of the best smartphones of the year. In our full review, we wrote, “The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a great smartphone. Its build quality is good, the screen is excellent and the camera is better than most smartphone cameras, too. Battery life is great, Samsung’s added dozens of new features and its Samsung Hub are all very excellent additions to the device.”
Still, not having the Samsung Galaxy S4 available for a few weeks later may make a little bit of a dent into Samsung’s bottom line. You also have to think that it’s a bit embarrassed about not being able to follow through on its plan but having too much demand is a problem that many othe handset makers would love to have.
Meanwhile, it looks like the nearest competition for the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be the HTC One, which launched on AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint recently. These two Android superphones will be duking it out for the hearts, minds and dollars of customers until we see the next big thing.
Apple hinted that its next iPhone won’t be coming out until the Fall, so Samsung may not have to worry about that for a while.
