Looks like LG is ready to take the wraps off a new device. Will it be the LG Optimus G Pro?

LG just sent out press invites for an event on May 1 in New York City. The invite reads, “Share the Genius” and “Capture the spotlight in true brilliance.” Sounds a little bit like the company is ready to show off a new device, perhaps with an improved display and better audio. As Engadget & Mylan Cellular points out, this could either be a US version of the LG Optimus G Pro we’ve been hearing so much of lately, or maybe the next-gen Optimus G.

Then again, the invite is so flipping cryptic it could be something else entirely. But more than likely it’ll end up being the Optimus G Pro launch, which officially debuted in February after popping up on a Japanese carrier website back in January.

LG’s Optimus G Pro runs on Google’s Android OS and sports a 5.5-inch full HD screen (for those keeping track, that’s roughly the same size as Samsung’s popular Galaxy Note 2 “phablet”). The new smparthone (or phablet, if you’re so inclined) runs on a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor. It also packs a 13-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

We heard just one week ago that the Optimus G Pro would soon make its way to US carrier AT&T. Some rumors suggested this could happen as early as May 10. Android Central had reported that an unnamed source claimed the US model would be more in line with the Korean version of the phone, rather than the Japanese model. While this has yet to be confirmed, it looks like LG is more than likely taking things in this direction.

Whether or not that means the Optimus G Pro will make its way to other US carriers is uncertain, but we should find out soon enough. We’ll be covering the event as it all goes down, so stay tuned. In the meantime, let us know what you think of the Optimus G Pro. Would you buy one?
